World peace tour cyclist

On 15th January 2011, a new committee was formed in UKMA Plumstead branch. And on the same day the new committee managed to collect the sum totalling £132.00 in order to support World peace tour cyclist Mr. Budhathoki. Our newly elected President Mr. Dhan Bahadur Thapa Magar handed the sum to Mr. Budhathoki and wished him a good luck to complete...Read more.

Gurkha regiment under threat as MoD spending cuts dig deep

One of Britain's most famous Army regiments could be sacrificed under drastic defence cuts. Ministers risk being forced to take the axe to the Gurkhas in an attempt to save millions of pounds.One military expert warned that the 'writing was on the wall' for the Nepalese soldiers, who have been part of the Army for nearly 200 years. Chancellor George Osborne has ordered the Ministry of Defence to make cuts of between 10 and 20 per cent of its £36.9 billion budget...Read more.

Gurkhas renew battle over British army pensions

Retired Gurkhas have taken their battle with the Ministry of Defence over their army pensions to the Court of Appeal. The British Gurkha Welfare Society is challenging a decision to limit the pensions paid to those who left the service before 1997. Earlier this year it lost a test case, which would have affected about 25,000 veterans, at the High Court.The Ministry of Defence said the pension cut-off date was "justified and proportionate". Changes to pension rules in 2007 gave serving Gurkha soldiers equal pension rights with other service personnel in the UK...Read more.

English classes for Gurkhas and their families

English classes for Gurkhas and their families for year 2010 and 2011 will be held in Greenwich Community College and Plumstead community Center.Registration will be on 8th September 2010 before 1300 hours but starting time will be confirmed soon.For registration on 8th September everyone must bring Passport, Army discharge book (Red Book) and previous college card.
